What is an authorized replica ?

In 1970 Picasso was shown reproductions printed using a new technique akin to screenprinting in three dimensions, a process developed by Gunter Dietz. Picasso was impressed enough to agree to having three (3) notebooks of drawings , 68 drawings made in graphite, India ink, charcoal and colored chalk in total reproduced in their original size using this method. Three different publishers participated, each of whom took 666 copies (Cercle d’Art, Paris; Abrams, New York and Schunemann in Bremen). Of the 666 a deluxe edition of 35 included an etching dated July 21, 1970.

Titled Le Gout du Bonheur, it translates to The Taste or Flavor of Happiness.

The above information was spelled out in Patrick Cramer’s publication Pablo Picasso The Illustrated Books.

Naturally as these are reproductions of drawings the artist made in 1964, their value is modest.
