The Pecking Order of Artist’s Medium

Looking back at the blog titled “Appraiser to the Rescue” where a small dark etching by Martin Lewis sold for approximately twice what this large and entirely delicious watercolor is priced by the same artist–demonstrates another art value reality.  Value is driven by the market’s preference for what constitutes the artist’s best work as of a particular point in time.

That said, I would be hard pressed to find a more beautiful watercolor than this painting illustrated to the left by Martin Lewis titled Coast off Iyo, Japan and painted circa 1920.
