Paying full price for a work of art is not a mistake IF you have a good eye and are willing to hold it for more than 10 years.
The art has to be a sterling example by a noteworthy artist.
The type of art has to be trending.
First noticed this with respect to appraisals of good art collected by people who bought what they loved. Then saw it happen with my own art selections, when there was no investment intention.
Staying abreast with what art is trending means reading art newsletters, art magazines, visiting art galleries, art fairs, art museums.
Discounts are nice, but meaningless if you are assembling mediocrity.
