June 20, 2026 Judd Tully of ArtNet chronicled an Ebay seller operating as dantegallery. Two works on paper were purchased for a Buy It Now price of $499 each. Thorough research proved conclusively, both were under-inspired copies. Seemingly appropriate gallery labels were affixed. Someone went to extra trouble to legitimize these bargain-priced creations.
A screenshot shows 89 items were successfully rehomed by dantegallery on Ebay. Therefore, 89 art shoppers will ultimately be disappointed. Surprisingly dantegallery had 97.6% positive Ebay feedback.
Why bring this to your attention now that dantegallery is gone?
Couple of months ago Ebay was notified about hundreds, no thousands of fake artworks being offered on Ebay under the title line “Painting on old paper signed stamped vintage” or “Drawing on old paper“. Today July 5, 2026 there were over 9,500 listings, while 317 paintings sold. Over 14,000 drawing listings appeared with 531 sold using these titles.
Prices typically are <$200, although a faux drawing listed as Georgia O’Keeffe was priced $1,500. Different sellers are listed: nimiart, polished.iron86, frankstevenmuozpolanc_0, auctionart1, laurabonilla0, black-gallery, brokerjoa. Most sellers are based in Peru. Laurabonilla0 has sold 759 items, polished.iron86 has sold 829 items. Polished.iron86 has 99.1% positive feedback.
Some artists sold under the two titles include: Keith Haring, Claude Monet, Frida Kahlo, Helen Frankenthaler, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Hunt Slonem, Salvador Dali, Leonora Carrington, Roy Lichtenstein, Basquiat, Yayoi Kusama, Horace Pippin, Pablo Picasso, Rembrandt, Vincent Van Gogh, Vasily Kandinsky.
Ebay’s response was predicated on listing disclosures (currently more prominently indicated than when originally brought to their attention) “I am selling this item in the artist’s style or as a reproduction according to Ebay rules”.

An antique mall serving up over 150 fake artworks will be shared soon. So far the FBI has NOT demonstrated interest, although notification was proffered roughly a month ago.
