Artist Hopid was formed on May 18, 1973 by a group of Hopi artists: Michael Kabotie, Terrance Talaswayma, Neil David Sr. and Delbridge Honanie. Milland Lomakema subsequently joined the group.
“Their objectives included the use of their artistic talents to instill pride and identity in the Hopi, to educate Indian and non-Indian to the cultural values of the Hopi, to experiment and test new ideas and techniques in art, using traditional Hopi designs and concepts, to control their artistic talents and market; to research and document Hopi history and events through the visual arts.” Hopi Painting The World of the Hopis by Patricia Broder

Should you visit University of California’s Davis campus, their Gorman Museum of Native American Art hosts a 32′ long mural by the members of Artist Hopid. Impressive on many levels, Hopi Ceremonial Calendar was created in 1975. It is believed each artist signed their respective section of the mural with an outline of the artist’s hand.

Currently Neil David Sr. (born 1944) is the only surviving member of Artist Hopid.
Privileged to have interfaced with Michael Kabotie, Delbridge Honanie and Neil David Sr. during the course of researching appraisal assignments.
