marketability
Size isn’t Everything

The second painting by Cliff Bahnimptewa is physically smaller, but its composition is more commanding. Implied action coupled with greater detail in the figure’s costume renders the second painting more valuable than the first. Each was painted in 1972, using the same type of paint on the same type of paper. Each depicts a single figure, but the second is bonused with more detail and action in the figure’s pose, increasing its marketability and value.
The above guidelines would also be true for the work of many artists, whose works are representational.
