What are the conclusive ways to tell an authentic Papago baket from a repro? I get the impression that is the weave appears as neat on the back as on the front, the basket is authentic Papago. The weave should not look messy or have hanging ends of the dark brown devil’s claw used to work the designs. Is this conclusive? I ahve seen some fake Papago baskets online that look good in photos but have never (knowingly) examined an actual Papago repro.

  2. Fibers used are different. Design characteristics mimic, but are not completely right. Basket’s start is generally wrong.
